Separate to our work on Wansbeck General Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust approached the _space group team to deliver provision for two new operating theatres in the hospital. The team took the project from inception through to completion and worked closely with the other consultants to deliver this ground-breaking theatre complex. The scheme consisted of a Laparoscopic Clean Air Theatre along with a specialist voice-activated theatre. The suite enables surgeons to work in a completely sterile environment to carry out advanced surgery using cable technology with monitors. The suite was also completely fitted for teaching with a remote lecture room linked by cameras.
