Northumbria University’s City Campus East development is a brand new addition to the university’s campus, comprising two buildings housing three schools; the Design School, Law School and Business School.
_space group was employed to space plan and specify the furniture across these two buildings, filling these empty shells and transforming them into individual places of learning that met a range of different requirements.
Each school’s approach to accommodation was different; the Design School wanted an open plan approach that would provide them with flexibility for students to design and exhibit their work, whereas the Law and Business Schools required cellular offices for academic staff. The interior design reflects the highly contemporary nature of the external façade, and promotes a feeling of unity across the campus.
