This £30m scheme is a new flagship building, the Gateway, for Durham University to house the School of Law, executive offices, student services, a catering outlet and an extension to the main library.
This bold concept design sits within a World Heritage Site around the historic Durham Cathedral and Castle, at the edge of the city, and will create a new courtyard within the public realm on the established science site.
Green thinking underpins our design, which incorporates natural ventilation, solar shading and sedum roofs for SUDS. Eco-friendly materials have been selected including cedor shingles and cedar boarding, and although it is still being built, the project has already receive a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
We have also been able to make good use of our BIM knowledge on this design, with one of our renders being selected as an industry exemplar and the front cover of a BIM reference book.
