This mixed use scheme focuses on creating housing in a sensitive conservation area in the England/Scotland border town. The scheme comprises 47 houses and apartments with ground floor retail units and sits within a conservation area, adjacent to the Elizabethan Town Wall, a scheduled ancient monument.
_space group’s design combined commercially marketable buildings with contemporary detailing that also ensureed that conservation and context were not compromised, by creating areas of predominantly simple white rendered buildings with pitched roofs that emulate the Georgian warehouses that originally stood on the site.
There was also a focus on this project as a regeneration opportunity, and an opportunity to reverse the skills and population drain the town has experienced.
