Designer, Builder and Trainer
Barbara Jones is a desinger, builder and trainer, as well as the founder of The School of Natural Building (SNaB), the UK's pre-eminent straw-bale building authority. Barbara's decades of innovation and experience in natural building and cement-free foundations, led her to write her essential guid to building with straw: 'Buiding with Straw Bales; A Practical Manual forSelf-Builders and Architects.' Similarly, alongside Eileen Sutherland and others, she wrote the 'Technical Guide to Straw Construction in the UK.'
With a passion about creating affordable houses for ordinary people, using healthy and natural materials that don't comprimise on quality, Barbara is a pioneer within the sustainable construction industry. Working on ground-breaking cement-free foundations, her experience with natural building materials goes beyond conventions and dismantles barriers.
Barbara has been recognised across the industry for creating spaces for women within sustainable construction and design, and challenging the limits of architecture.
She has recieved a Lifetime Achievement Award, a Woman of Outstanding Achievement Award, and was voted as the Most Inspirational Woman Builder by the CIOB. Barbara is a Fellow of the RSA, a founder member of Tod College, the community owned and run learning hub, and a host of many of SNaB's activities.
