Business as a Force for Good
We are proud to be a certified B Corporation, part of a global movement that is redefining what it means to succeed in business. We achieved certification in 2022, becoming the first practice in the built environment from the North East to do so and one of only a handful of B Corps in the region at the time. Since then, the community has grown, and we are proud to stand alongside other organisations that share the belief that business can and should be a force for good.
Commitments You Can Measure
Principles are powerful, but they need structure to endure. That’s why we align ourselves with leading accreditations across quality, environment, safety, and digital practice. Such frameworks anchor our ambitions, ensuring that high ideals are matched by rigorous processes, transparent reporting, and results that can be trusted.
Examples include Science-Based Targets, which commit us to reducing emissions in line with climate science; Passive House and SmartScore accreditations, which set recognised standards for energy performance and digital excellence in the built environment; and Investors in People and Best Companies, which recognise our commitment to excellence within our own teams. These are only a few of the benchmarks we embrace. Across the Group, we belong to many more, but we choose them carefully, selecting those that reflect our values and carry the power to move us and the industry, meaningfully forward.
Decarbonising the Built Environment
Our greatest responsibility is to the climate. Through collaborative research and innovation, we are developing practical tools that help reduce whole-life carbon emissions, extend the lifespan of buildings, and make circular design a reality. Much of this work is shaped in partnership with local universities and partners such as Innovate UK, where knowledge exchange and applied research allow us to test new approaches and translate them into practice. These collaborations have led to pioneering tools that embed sustainability into the earliest stages of design, influencing not only our own projects but offering methods that others across the industry can adopt.
The lessons we learn are not kept within the Group. They are shared openly through platforms such as our annual _shift conference, a climate-focused event dedicated to accelerating the decarbonisation of the built environment. Hosted in the North East, _shift brings global and local voices together, creating a space where researchers, industry leaders, campaigners, and communities can exchange knowledge, challenge assumptions, and spark collective action.
Local Roots, Shared Value
Our impact is also felt close to home. We invest in skills and education, offering scholarships to nurture the next generation of built environment professionals, while also giving time, funding, and expertise to initiatives that support families and young people across the region. Every member of our team is given dedicated time each year to volunteer their skills where they are most needed. These commitments, carried out with sincerity, create legacies that reach far beyond the walls of any building.
Equally important is the way we work with clients and partners. Our role doesn’t end when a project is handed over. We stay connected, offering support, sharing what we learn, and continuing relationships that carry value long into the future.
